URGE CONGRESS NOT TO VOTE FOR THE NEW DEAL

URGE CONGRESS NOT TO VOTE FOR THE NEW DEAL Obama announced a last-minute deal to raise the U.S.borrowing limit and urged
Congressmen to do the right thing and approve the proposed agreement to avert a
catastrophic default.Nevertheless, we urge Congress not to raise the limit,
because this is the only right thing to do!The three largest credit rating
agencies(CRA) Moody's, Standard & Poor's, Fitch do not like the new deal
either. There is only one solution to the dilemma faced by a government over its
inability to borrow more money.Shut it down!Stimulus funds stimulate government, not the economy.Downturn in a business
cycle is painful but necessary medicine for restoring equilibrium to the
economic system.Reject further lowering of the interest rate (stimulative
monetary policy) or any other attempts (for example, deficit spending or
stimulative fiscal policy) to stimulate demand.

The compromise would cut about $2.4 trillion from the deficit over the next 10
years. But this is peanuts, an insult to oue intelligence! While Senate
approval is likely, House's disapproval is more likely! The plan involves a
two-step process for reducing the U.S.deficit.The first phase calls for $900
billion in spending cuts over the next decade and the next $1.5 trillion in
savings must be found by a special congressional committee.

Every democracy is eventually hijacked by rabblerousers, pullpeddlers, clans of
kleptocrats, bumptious bugaboos, busybodies, butterbabies, nabobs of nepotism,
cranks of cronyism, pusillanimous pu**yfooters, riffraffs of rascals, socialist
sophists, and Machiavellian mafiosi.Democracy tends to kleptocracy.Anarchy
should replace democracy.Financial markets have a temporary upswing now.But for the rally to be durable,
markets will need more than this downpayment agreement.
Investors will look to a more coherent fiscal reform to emerge from the second
step and, more generally, for additional measures to remove structural
impediments to growth and jobs.Taxation is armed robbery that feeds the black
h*le of political corruption; it's the perfect index of corruption and tyranny.
Only evil governments tax citizens and companies.

The best thing that could ever happen to citizens would be that the majority of
the functions of government were shut down permanently.Jefferson said the two
enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second
down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the
legalized version of the first.Defense spending in the West is over two trillion euros a year. The West spends
twice on defense than the rest of the world combined. The West has over 1,000
foreign military bases and station troops in over 150 countries.Much of what
pa*ses for defense spending has no recognizable connection to West security.
Since maintaining a strong national defense has nothing to do with maintaining a
strong offense in every corner of the globe, foreign bases should be shut down.

When the government failed to protect the citizens from terrorists, parliaments
responded by creating new services of antiterrorism. But since we already have
Ministries of Defense, and the antiterrorist services have become a menace to
society, the airlines, like any other business, should provide their own
screening and security and the antiterrorist services should be shut down. The
government itself is the largest terrorist organization after all!

The war on drugs drains 100 billion euros a year. It has destroyed financial
privacy, eroded civil liberties, swelled prison populations, turned law-abiding
citizens into criminals, failed to reduce drug use, and ruined more lives than
drugs themselves. The war on drugs should be shut down.

The West provides some form of a*sistance to over 150 countries.Foreign aid
loots taxpayers and lines the pockets of foreign kleptocrats.Trillions of euros
have been doled out the last quarter of century. And with poverty, unemployment,
and crumbling infrastructure in the West, it doesn't even make any sense for
kleptocrats to send taxpayer money overseas.Spending on foreign aid should be
shut down. It's not yours to give!

Squandering taxpayers' hard-earned money on Third World is ridiculous. It's not
yours to give! There are many reasons for the failure of foreign aid.Foreign
aid has a widespread record of waste, fraud, and abuse. Aid programs have built
tennis courts in Rwanda, sent sewing machines to areas without electricity, and
constructed hospitals in cities where a dozen similar facilities already sat
half empty.three quarters of the peacekeeping budget. And then there is the money that
Western taxpayers are forced to give the World Bank and the IMF. Spending on
these globalist organizations should be shut down.

Universal Nudnik(UN) tends to enlarge its power and corruption.Ban Ki-moon,
the former South Korean foreign minister, has been a weak Universal Nudnik Civil
Pope.At Turtle Bay and elsewhere, the Civil Pope is seen as a disappointment
and as the wrong man to a*sume a prominent role and lead the global community at
a time when the world's political axis is shifting from America to Europe.Ban
is more secretary than general. Many global organizations suffer from the fact
that they are run by uncharismatic bureaucrats. In most cases, this is the fault
of the kleptocrats who prefer to elevate weak figures, who won't meddle too
much.

Western governments own over one billion acres of land, with ownership exceeding
50 percent in some states. All government land should be sold and the Ministries
of the Interior should be shut down.Internet can replace schools.Aside from that bloated bureaucracy of the
ministries of education, there is the National School Lunch Act, the Elementary
and Secondary Education Act; Pell Grants, research grants to colleges, Erasmus,
EIT, and student loans. And since most constitutions are silent on the
government's authority to spend one dime on education, spending on education
should be shut down.

There is no direct relationship between education and schooling. You might be
schooled but uneducated, and you might be educated but unschooled.Schools are
concentration camps for the drones of society.Unschooling is much better than
schooling.Internet is the best source of knowledge and information, replacing
schools, libraries, media, parliaments, and postoffice.

The government regulates and funds health care.Yet, most constitutions
authorize not a dime to be spent to do either. This means no Ministries of
Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health, Medicare, Medicaid,
SCHIP, IKA, or funding of laboratories, community health centers, medical
research, clinical trials, family planning, vaccinations, or AIDS prevention
initiatives.Spending on medical care should be shut down.

You own your body and your soul, and nobody should dictate what you take in and
what you take out.Speech, education, heresy, habeas corpus, military service,
mating, healthcare, abortion, cloning, drugs, guns, and euthanasia should be
personal choices.

The space program funnels billions of taxpayer dollars and euros to privileged
scientists, researchers, and contractors. And since space exploration and
experimentation are no more legitimate purposes of government than providing
health care, they should be shut down.

State insurance is an entitlement program, an income transfer scheme, a wealth
redistribution plan, and a Ponzi scheme. It is a welfare program just like
unemployment benefits, food stamps, Head Start, farm subsidies, and housing
subsidies.State insurance taxes should be abolished and the program should be
shut down.

Without government spending on all of these things, there is one government
service that citizens certainly don't need: the tax service. All taxes should be
abolished and the tax services should be shut down.Taxes destroy the economy.
Raising tax rates is
masochism.Smart stimulus is to cut tax rates.Stupidus stimulus is to increase
spending, which stimulates the cancer of statism!

Debt ceiling or no debt ceiling, deficit or no deficit -- all of these
unconstitutional ministries, agencies, boards, commissions, authorities,
bureaus, divisions, services, administrations, and programs should be shut down.
This is not complicated.Constitutions delegate certain limited powers to the
government.Every other purpose of government is illegal.

Making Interesting and Healthy Salads

Making Interesting and Healthy Salads At first I wasn’t going to post this because I think making salad is something that everyone does, particularly in the summer. However once I thought about it realized that there are a few tricks to making an interesting and healthy salad. After I realized that I knew I should write something on the topic. Here are a few salads I made so far this weekend. The first was a quinoa and veggie salad. This one contained cold cooked quinoa, diced cucumbers, julienned carrots, dried tart cherries, cilantro and green onions and pecans.I dressed this simply using only lemon zest, lemon juice and no salt seasoning. The second salad was also a grain and veg salad. It was a simple salad which contained: cold cooked barley, shaved kohlrabi, artichokes, diced cucumber, tomato, and parsley.I wanted this one to have an Italian flavor and dressed it with red wine vinegar and nutritional yeast. The third salad was all veg, no grain. This one contained raw corn, shaved kohlrabi, diced cucumbers, artichokes, cilantro, tomato, and walnuts.I dressed this salad with fresh lemon juice and no-salt seasoning.

The first thing you will notice is that I don’t use oil on my salads. This isn’t a surprise to my long time readers since you know that I don’t use oil at home except for the occasional splurge with truffle oil or roasted sesame oil. This was a tough habit for me to break being part Italian.I was convinced that salad wouldn’t be any good without unfiltered extra virgin olive oil initially. However I have been away from oil so long now that salad which contains oil just tastes greasy to me.The other thing that I noticed is that oil mutes the flavor of the other ingredients in the salad.I never realized that until I gave it up.It does take a month or more to get used to food without oil, but once you get used to it you won’t go back.Plus your arteries will thank you.

I like to add nuts or seeds to my salad in lieu of oil. They add good fat to help your body absorb the fat soluble vitamins in the salad.

When I make salad I try to make sure that at least 50% of the ingredients in the salad are raw.I do this for both texture and nutrition.В  You will notice that the kohlrabi is raw and that is because it is a member of the cruciferous veg family and is far more nutritious when it is raw or lightly cooked.

In additionВ I intentionally vary the texture of the vegetables. Some of them are cut into chunks, others julienned, and still others shaved. This adds interest to the salad.

I also love to add fresh herbs to salad because they add wonderful flavor intensity.В  However herbs also add nutrition so add as many as you like.

Sometimes I add fresh or dried fruit to salad and that always adds a nice little variation to a straight veg or fruit salad. The dried fruit is particularly nice when you want pops of sweet intensity.

Salad dressings are something that I had to play around with for a while to get a feel for what we like.I always start with an acid base either: balsamic, wine vinegar, or citrus. To the acid base I add something that will help the dressing emulsify and this is either Dijon (which works great), miso or a nut cream (walnut and raw cashew are my favorites).Once you have the base done add any flavorings you like. These could be grated garlic or ginger, herbs or spice, poppy seeds, and maybe a little sweetener like stevia. After you start making no oil dressing you will find that they are simple to prepare it just takes a little time for your brain to adjust to the idea of no oil.If you want something really simple use straight balsamic glaze or pomegranate mola*ses. Both of these are thick as is and they add plenty of flavor.

Happy Thoughts:

- We had a lovely laid back Saturday. It was great to hang out at home and relax and recharge our batteries. We ate popcorn watched a movie and took it easy most of the day.В In case you are interested I flavored the popcorn with nutritional yeast, smoked paprika, dill, no-salt seasoning and powdered garlic.В  :-) - Sunday morning we had a great trip to the farmers’ market. We picked up our usual enormous haul of produce. This week we brought home: zucchini, eggplant, kale, portabellas, red potatoes, cabbage, cantaloupe, watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, cilantro, wheat germ, wheat bran, wh*le rye berries, steel cut oats, and mango curry hummus from the hummus stand. It was definitely a good haul this week. They have opened a «flea market» at Sonar next to the farmers’ market. This is where we picked up the organic wh*le grains. If you are downtown next Sunday check out the organic grains they have.I was very pleased with the variety and the prices.

- The fur children seem to have rebounded from their recent trips to the doctor.Luca is toddling around and smacking her brothers just like always.Masi is moving a little slower than usual but it might just be the season. My little ones seem to be less active in the summer even though they are in the air conditioning.

- I am enjoying reading «Younger Next Year».If you want to understand the science behind why it is a good idea to exercise everyday this is the book for you.I checked this out from the library but will be buying this for my Kindle because I can see myself referring to it often.- My laziness reallyВ paid off this morning.I was making a batch steel cuts oats to share with Dan today but I wanted savory oats and he wanted fruit and nut oats.I took some oats out for me and then put his breakfast together.Since I didn’t feel like running to the pantry to grab nutritional yeast I ended up making sushi oats for myself and loved it.I will share the details in the next post. While it sounds odd I promise you it was delicious.:-)

Signing Out:

We have other errands to run today so I need to get moving.I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.Talk with you again soon.

Many Cholesterol Patients Don't Take Drugs

Many Cholesterol Patients Don't Take Drugs CARY, N.C., July 30 (UPI) -- There are significant differences between those diagnosed with high ch*lesterol and those with high ch*lesterol and hypertension, U.S.researchers say.Jessica Brueggeman, director of behavioral services at MicroMa*s Communications in Cary, N.C., says despite these differences, one striking similarity is evident -- neither group is very good at taking ch*lesterol-lowering medications as prescribed.Patients with high ch*lesterol alone perceive high ch*lesterol as influenced more by heredity than by poor eating and exercise habits, and are less likely to see the benefits of taking ch*lesterol-lowering medications, Brueggeman

Seeing red

Seeing red I was sitting on my deck on this glorious summer day, enjoying the buzzing of hummingbirds, chirping of Flycatchers, and the sound of wind through the pine trees.
Then, I caught a waft of smoke.Yes, smoke.

It dissipated so fast that I thought that it was an apparition. So, I returned to enjoying the day.A few minutes later, another waft hit me.That's odd, I thought.

I went inside to get a

A Dinosaur Safari

A Dinosaur Safari

I recently took my children to one of the local botanical gardens. They were having a dinosaur exhibit throughout the park.

I handed the map to my children, who were more than happy to navigate our way through the park, keeping track of where we should see various dinosaurs.

The first few were easy to find, but later dinosaurs took a more practiced eye to see in the foliage. It made it feel more likeВ a real safari.

During that day, I also discovered my daughter’s love of photography.I myself love photography, although I’ve never taken the time to learn much about it.Perhaps that will be the push for me to start learning in order to help her.

The gardens were beautiful.

Signs near the dinosaurs gave limited facts about the species, to which my children added.

A discussion ensued about which of today’s animals were related to which dinosaurs.

Some of the exhibits were quite life-like.

We rehasehed our old debate about whether dragons were more likely to be warm or cold blooded. That’s a topic for another day, but we are still in the warm blooded camp.

By the time we made it to the end of the park, we were in full swing.I gave a stage whispered, «Don’t move!» My children looked around to see what it was I saw, spotting the great T-Rex.

FromВ which we had to run for our lives.

Memories and Friends

Forever lasts a memory
So build them every day
Tomorrow you will see
They are all that stay

You blink your eyes
The years have flown by
Before youВ can realise
That your memories won’t die

True friends stay together
Through the thick and thin
Hard times they weather
From when they first begin

And never say goodbye
No matter what the distance
On friends you rely
For all of time’s existence

With you they will go
Into the great unknown
To reap what you sow
The harvest love has grown.

How a doctor reversed her husband's Alzheimer's disease in 37 Days

How a doctor reversed her husband's Alzheimer's disease in 37 Days Dear User1481.Magic@Blogg - Dr.Frank Shallenberger relays this powerful story in very moving terms. And you'll be surprised with the way it all turned out.How a doctor reversed her husband's Alzheimer's disease in 37 DaysNew breakthrough improves memory...restores lost brain function...and even revives dying cells! If you've ever known anyone with Alzheimer's disease, you know how heart-breaking it can be. Not only does it destroy a person's mental abilities and dignity...but it wipes out the person's very personality, leaving behind a mere shell of a human being. The body is there for you to see, but the person you know and love no longer exists.

That's exactly what happened to my colleague Dr.Mary Newport and her husband Steve. As Mary describes it, "I was watching my husband of 36 years fade away."

Things didn't start out that way, of course. For most of Steve's life, he was known for his quick wit and sharp mind. He could do complicated math in his head ...take apart computers and repair them ...fix practically anything else without instruction. If he didn't have a tool to do something he would "invent" one and make a usable prototype. He was also a voracious reader. And he loved kayaking, cooking, landscaping, and caring for his two daughters.

Indeed, on the day the couples' first daughter was born, Steve left his corporate job as an accountant so he could work from home. He took over as manager of Mary's medical practice, handing all the accounting and administrative tasks. The practice grew by leaps and bounds. Tragedy Strikes But then Steve's memory started failing him. At first, it was little things, like misplacing his keys and forgetting appointments. But then the lapses became more serious. He started making errors with the accounting and payroll. Forgetting whether had had made the bank deposits. Missing tax deadlines.

A psychiatrist diagnosed him as having depression, and put him on antidepressant drugs and psychological counseling. But of course, that didn't help. Steve's memory continued to get worse. He started getting lost while trying to drive home. He couldn't even remember how to turn on the car's windshield wiper.

By now it was clear that Steve had dementia. Mary wrote in her journal: "It has been a nightmare to watch his decline. Every night, we hold each other before we go to sleep and I wonder how many more times we will get to do this."

Mary took Steve to a neurologist, who put him on the drugs Aricept, Namenda, and Exelon. But still, Steve continued to worsen. He'd spend his days walking around the house confused, wearing only one shoe. He couldn't remember how to use a spoon or how to get water out of the refrigerator. At a family reunion, he no longer recognized close relatives. He even forgot that he had fathered his oldest daughter.

Mary did everything she could for Steve. She cooked for him, gave him his medications, helped him get dressed.

She also tried to enroll him in studies on new experimental drugs. But Steve scored so low on the mental exam that he didn't qualify for the studies.

When Steve took the Mini Mental Status Exam (MMSR), he scored a 14 out of 30, which indicates severe dementia. And when he took a test where he was asked to draw a clock from memory, this is what he drew: And that's not all. When Steve took a genetic test for Alzheimer's, he tested positive for the leading Alzheimer's gene. And when he had an MRI of his brain, the MRI found a shrinking of the hippocampus and damage to his frontal and parietal lobes.

Still, there were brief moments when the old Steve would make a brief appearance. Sometimes he'd be able to hold a coherent conversation. Sometimes, he would even say something clever or crack a joke. One day, Mary asked if a certain phone call came and he said "no." Two days later, he remembered the call and what the caller said.

In Mary's words, it was "Strange to have no short-term memory and yet the information was filed somewhere in his brain. THE AWESOME BLENDSHIP OF UNCONDITIONAL FRIENDSHIP...........

THE AWESOME BLENDSHIP OF UNCONDITIONAL FRIENDSHIP........... As ever, Ted Dahlberg was at the front door of OLOL rectory, punctually at the stroke of 2 p.m., to drive me to my 2:30 p.m.nuclear medicine testing part three -В at Sutter General Capitol Pavillon, as the only respondent to my request for a ride today.В  I feel grateful for his generous spirit, and unconditional willingness, whenever he is available; to step up and get me to and from these essential appointments in my rehabilitation and restoration.В В But I am also concerned about having to over-depend on the handful of persons in my circle, like Ted, because too few others, are responsive or willing to answerВ my requestsВ for transportation.В В  The time I spend with him and his wife, Irene, are always enjoyable as the blendship of more than thirty years of friendship, confirms the authentic and unconditional care they have for me, as a person, and their friend, as well as a priest.В  Today's procedure was half as long as it was scheduled to be, so Ted and I were back at OLOL, at about a quarter to 4 o'clock.В  My cell phone has been acting up for more than six weeks and inВ a matter of minutes Ted was able to get it properly functioning for me again, as toВ use a new term I learned at the Capitol Pavillon today, I am not a, "technologist".В  With just five antibioticВ infusionВ therapy treatments remaining to complete, Paul Friedrich will be here to facilitateВ the p.m.treatment tonight.В  I hold out hope in regards to my currently indefinite transportation needs, that many more of you will say yes, and provide rides as needed.В  But I am becomingВ increasingly realistic that asking and seeking, will not necessarily produce anyone else.В  Only the generosity of their own hearts and minds, can unlock that possibility, and make it happen...........Fr.В  TroyВ

High School Graduation Rates To Fall, States Prepare For Calculation Changes

High School Graduation Rates To Fall, States Prepare For Calculation Changes
KANSAS CITY, Mo.-- States are bracing for plummeting high school graduation rates as districts nationwide dump flawed measurement formulas that often undercounted dropouts and produced inflated results.
Education wonks long have suspected the statistics used by some people to determine how their neighborhood high school is faring or even where to buy a house can be figured using various formulas that produce wildly different results.

Now, many states are facing a sobering reset: Some could see numbers fall by as many as 20 percentage points.

Liz Utrup, a spokeswoman for the U.S.Education Department, said graduation rate numbers will soon appear to decrease "across the board" as states move to a uniform calculation that requires them to track each student individually, giving a more accurate count of how many actually finish high school.

"Through this uniform method, states are raising the bar on data standards, and simply being more honest," U.S.Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said.

Most states are required to convert to the new calculation this year, but the number won't count as part of federal No Child Left Behind benchmarks until the 2012-13 school year.Schools that consistently miss those measures face sanctions.

All but two states Idaho and Kentucky, which need more time to develop student tracking systems will start submitting the new numbers to the federal government starting late this summer.

States that converted to the new formula already have seen drops ranging from modest to ma*sive.Michigan had a nearly 10 percentage point fall when they made the switch in 2007.About half of states are not yet using the new calculation.

Florida's graduation rate remained about stable, at 79 percent, when it adopted the new graduation rate in the 2009-10 school year.It would have been nearly two points higher if it had continued under the old calculation.

States making the switch this year are offering estimates of expected dips and discussing the change in school board meetings. In Kansas, the graduation rate is expected to tumble from 89 percent to 80 percent, with one district in the state anticipating a 20-point drop.Georgia said its overall rate now at 80 percent could plummet about 15 percentage points.

"We're certainly concerned no matter what with that number under 100 percent," said Kelly Smith, superintendent of Belle Plaine schools in Minnesota, which is transitioning to the new formula this year."The new system isn't changing what we're doing in our schools, and we need to get that point across."

Matt Cardoza, a spokesman for Georgia's Department of Education, said while he worries the public may think that high numbers of students are suddenly failing to finish school, the new formula could produce "a more accurate picture of how many of our students are actually finishing high school with a diploma."

Jay Greene, who heads the Department of Education Reform at the University of Arkansas, said he started studying graduation rates in 1999 because he determined many of them made no sense.

"The initial reaction was that I was mistaken, that I couldn't know," said Greene."And I pressed the issue with reporters and at meetings and basically asked the question, `If it's true that you have a 1 percent annual dropout rate, how come you have twice as many ninth and tenth and graders as you have graduates?'"

Much of the blame for past problems went to something called the "leaver method," a popular calculation for determining graduation rates that also has gained a reputation for being the most generous. The method, used by about half the states last year, works like this: If a school had 100 graduates and 10 students who dropped out from their freshmen to senior year, 100 would be divided by 110, giving the school a graduation rate of 90.9 percent.

Schools weren't dinged if students took more than four years to graduate. When students disappeared, they often were cla*sified as transfers, even though some of them had actually dropped out. Many schools weren't required to document that transfers showed up somewhere else.

"You have to be honest with the data," said David Doty, superintendent of the Canyon School District in Utah."If the data doesn't mean anything, there's no point in using it anyway."

U.S.Sen.Mark Warner, a Democrat, used the National Governors Association to push for graduation rate changes while he led Virginia from 2002 to 2006.His motivation, he said, was a desire to see how his state stacked up.

Virginia was boasting 90 percent or better graduation rates during Warner's drive for a uniform rate, but that dropped to 81 when the new formula was adopted in 2008.

Ultimately, the U.S.Department of Education settled on a formula similar to the NGA's: the number of graduates in a given year, divided by the number of students who enrolled four years earlier. Also, schools must document transfer students or they'll artificially deflate the graduation rate.

Schools weren't necessarily being subversive in the way they calculated their rates, said Ryan Reyna, senior policy analyst with the National Governors Association. Many states used imperfect formulas because they couldn't track students who moved, which is being fixed with the addition of new state-level systems that identification numbers to each student.

Experts hope the changes will draw attention to the dropout issue and lead to resources being focused on the problem. That is happening in Kansas and other states, where officials are developing a system of early indicators to alert schools that a student is at risk.

"We're going to take an honest look in the mirror and see how real our graduation rate is and where we need to cut the dropout rate," said former West Virginia Gov.Bob Wise, president of the Alliance for Excellent Education, which has extensively studied the nation's hodgepodge system of graduation rates."You've got to know how deep the h*le is in order to develop a strategy for getting out of it."

They are talking about it again, about

Shutting down the government, and

It is something about a budget, but nothing,

Nothing about him, that soldier, just home,

After a year on the ground in Afghanistan,

Where he fought because they told him to,

And nothing about a wife, who has to do this,

Who has to stand here, stand and watch him,

Her husband, stare at the screen of a television

With blank eyes, or watch him as he walks back

And forth in their backyard, this cadence in gra*s,

Or watch him as he lies, as he lies next to her,

In their bed, pretending that he knows how, how

To do this now, how to do this with nothing now,

No paycheck and no job and no way, with no way

To tell himself that he matters.

WOMAN KILLS RELATIVE WHO RAPED HER OVER FOUR YEARS

WOMAN KILLS RELATIVE WHO RAPED HER OVER FOUR YEARS

A 21-year-old woman was yesterday convicted of culpable homicide after she stabbed a 69-year-old man who had sexually abused her for more than four years with a knife.Thembile Nomcebo Maseko killed Zachariah Motsa who abused her since 2002 in Swaziland.

Maseko ripped Motsa’s stomach open and left intestines hanging. She did not end there as she sliced the deceased’s manhood as well.

In total, Maseko stabbed the deceased 11 times.Four stab wounds were on the chest, four on the back, two around the abdomen and one on the penis.

According to the evidence in court, Maseko and the deceased were staying together at the deceased’s homestead. The reason was that Maseko was abandoned by her parents at a young age and she knew the deceased as her relative. She actually referred to the deceased as her grandfather.

Apparently, the deceased took advantage of that and started sexually abusing Maseko when she was 14 years old.The first time the deceased had sex with her, he promised to give her money.

Indeed after the ordeal, she was given the money which she spent at a local shop and kept quiet about what had befallen her.

On another day, the deceased said they should share a bed since he did not want his other bed used. There were two beds in the house. While she was asleep, the deceased allegedly woke her up and when she asked what the problem was, the deceased is alleged to have said he had been made to taste something nice from Maseko hence he wanted a repeat.В  This time he promised to give Maseko more money.

However, after the session, he changed his tone saying he would pay in the morning.

Again in the morning, the deceased postponed with the promise that he would pay the money in the evening. When Maseko came in the evening she found that the deceased had bought her bread and sour milk (emasi). They ended up having sex with the promise that she would be given everything she needed.

After the empty promises, Maseko decided to leave the deceased’s homestead to live with David Motsa, who is a brother to the deceased. But since she was allegedly made to work without food, she ended up going back to the deceased’s homestead because she was desperate.

During the first month of her return, the deceased did not demand sex.But in the second month, the old Adam came back. All this time Maseko told the court that she would tell the deceased that she was not having sex with him willingly. She said she was afraid to report the matter to David because the deceased gave her food.

However, one night after she had fallen in love with Sabelo Ndlangamandla, they had sex with him (Sabelo) in the deceased’s room. This did not go down well with the deceased who was irked by the groans and moans of pleasure which were allegedly made by Maseko during the session. The deceased is alleged to have complained about the noise when Sabelo had left.

Maseko told him (deceased) that the reason she made such noises was that she loved Sabelo and had enjoyed having sex with him than with a relative, referring to the deceased.Furthermore, the deceased suggested that the two could have had sexual intercourse under a tree.Maseko told the court she told the deceased that she no longer loved him.Incensed by such, the deceased took a stick and a*saulted her three times.

Maseko got hold of the stick and while they were wrestling for it, she saw the knife on the table and stabbed the deceased several times before she went out to raise an alarm.

Judge Qinisile Mabuza stated that there was a possibility it was true that Maseko killed in self -defence.

The judge reasoned that after Maseko had had sex with her boyfriend in the same room the deceased was likely to get angry.В  «I say this because the accused (Maseko) groaned and moaned in pleasure. The deceased would be angry because he thought Maseko belonged to her,» she observed.Eventually, Judge Mabuza found Maseko guilty of culpable homicide and she will be sentenced on August 3, 2011.

When Nomcebo Maseko sliced Zachariah Motsa’s manhood, she may have been removing the object of oppression after the latter had sexually abused her for more than four years.

This observation was made by Judge Qinisile Mabuza who stated that such could be a sign that Maseko was trying to get rid of the object of oppression.

However, in the end the judge found that Maseko killed the deceased in self-defence.В  «In the end I find that she acted in self-defence but she exceeded the bounds of defence,» Judge Mabuza noted.Judge Mabuza also wondered what she should do to older relatives who were abusing children.

«What should I say to older relatives who abuse children?» she said, directing herself to Daniel Nxumalo who was representing the Crown in the matter. This was after Nxumalo had pleaded that while it could be true that Maseko was acting in self-defence, the court should consider that a life was lost.Nxumalo argued that Maseko should have approached organisations like the Save Children who are responsible for child protection instead of taking the law unto her hands.

FIKILE Mamba, who mothers culpable homicide convict, Thembile Maseko, told the court that her daughter dropped out of school for the love of men.

Apparently, Maseko went as far as Grade four in school.

Mamba was called to testify during the trial of her daughter who had been sexually abused for more than four years.

Furthermore, Mamba said she never knew and was never told that her child was being abused.Apparently, she was not living with her child because she stayed with another man who only allowed her to visit her children once in two months. When asked if Maseko knew her paternal homestead, Mamba responded to the affirmative.

However, when such was put to Maseko, she told the court that she had been to her paternal homestead only after she was released on bail.Presiding Judge, Qinisile Mabuza, however, observed that mentally, Mamba was immature which led Maseko to live a somehow meaningless life.

For banks, asset quality fears rise with the rates

For banks, asset quality fears rise with the rates

With the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) wielding the sledgehammer on inflation, a*set quality of banks faces a greater risk of deterioration because of lending to sectors that are vulnerable to rising interest rates and slower economic growth.

These include commercial real estate, non-banking finance companies (NBFCs), housing loans, vehicle loans, education loans and the power sector.

State Bank of India chairman Pratip Chaudhuri said, «NPA accretion is accelerated in sectors where interest rates comprise a significant part of the total cost»

Such loans, he said, are given for real estate, education and automobiles.

Bank of India chairman and managing director M D Mallya said even the infrastructure can be categorised as sensitive to interest rates.

Bankers on Tuesday told Reserve Bank of India governor Duvvuri Subbarao that a*sets or loans could come under stress in rate sensitive sector due to the rapid rate hike.

Banks with a higher exposure to housing loans in the retail segment are seen hurting.

«If you are hiking the equated monthly instalments, or EMIs, every time, then how far will the customer be able to repay the loan? The other option is to extend the loan re-payment period. But there also you have restrictions on extending the period,» said PN Ramaswami, general manager, Bank of India.

He said that Bank of India’s housing loans portfolio is very small so the bank does not run such a risk.

Ramaswami also said banks where the proportion of restructured
loans in commercial real estate is large and repayment is yet to begin will be vulnerable to a*set quality deterioration.

For non-banking finance companies, the concern stems from the fact that they are not able to pa*s on the impact of higher cost of funds to customers.

That automatically makes loan repayments difficult.

Reuters adds: State-owned banks in India account for about 70% of total loans.

Most Indian banks, which posted earnings for the June quarter this month, have shown a decline in net interest margins a key gauge of profitability for banks either on sequential or on year-on-year basis.

HARARE SCHOOL GIRL RISES FROM THE DEAD

HARARE SCHOOL GIRL RISES FROM THE DEAD

The school authorities had earlier sent the girl home so she could get treatment after she had complained of a severe headache. She reportedly collapsed while at home, resulting in her being rushed to a medical centre in the Avenues.

«It appears she had not died, but had fallen into a comma and she regained consciousness while in the mortuary, perhaps because of the cold.Fortunately an attendant heard her coughing and a*sisted her,» said a teacher at the school.

«She even came to school yesterday, and initially some pupils were afraid of her, but they later relaxed after the school authorities a*sured them it (the mishap) was normal. She was also called to the headmaster’s office where she was counselled and congratulated on her escape.»

The school head, who was identified as Chari, refused to comment on the matter or allow the girl to be interviewed referring all questions to her parents. They could, however, not be located.

Cases of people gaining consciousness in the morgue after being certified dead are quite common and in most cases doctors would have erred.

Yesterday, a news report from South Africa said a man spent 21 hours inside a morgue after he was mistaken for dead.

The man from Eastern Cape was last Saturday (the same day the Mt Pleasant girl «rose from the mortuary» placed in a morgue only to wake up screaming the following day, (Sunday afternoon) and demanding to be taken out of the refrigerator.

В He was then hospitalised and discharged on Monday.NEWSDAY
