Three Armenians arrested for smuggling jewelry into Georgia

Three Armenian citizens have been arrested in Georgia for smuggling 500 grams undeclared gold jewelry into Georgia.

According to the Georgian website Gruzia Online, Karen Mishelikjan, Garegin Hovhannisyan and Araik Paronyan managed to cross the border without declaring the jewelry worth an estimated $31,000 to the custom’s office.

They had even managed to carry the jewelry to the Georgian region of Marneuli.

A criminal case has been filed.

If convicted, the three men will face from eight to 11 years in prison.
